We are an agency that edits a large number of professional instagram reels for clients each week and are looking to grow our team. Work would be frequent and ongoing with the opportunity to move into hourly/full time in the future. We currently pay on a per video basis and our budget for these videos is $12 per video including revisions. Videos themselves are relatively easy to edit using Capcut or Premiere Pro/After Effects. However, the assigned project—a promotional reel for “Ava” software—was complex, involving 8 GB of footage, drone shots, B-roll, logo animations, and technical corrections (e.g., mismatched shutter speed and ISO). I invested significant effort, completing four rounds of revisions per his detailed requirements. On March 31, 2025, I explicitly warned Michael that additional revisions cost $10 each—a standard practice he did not contest while requesting changes. I even provided one revision for free, which is uncommon. After delivering the video, I proposed a fair payment of $45 ($15 for complex editing, $30 for three paid revisions), later compromising at $36 to accommodate his budget. Shockingly, Michael paid nothing—not even the $7—ignored my messages for over a month, and refused to engage or acknowledge the compromise, despite clear warnings about costs. To my dismay, I discovered my work posted on Instagram by Michael’s client, Max, without any payment. Michael admitted to re-editing the video but claimed only minor changes, meaning 90% of my work was used without permission—a clear copyright violation.
