These concerns were raised during the project in recorded meetings with AI transcripts available, and supporting screenshots regarding campaign setup, lead forms, and lead quality were also shared during the engagement. Throughout the contract, I was consistently told in meetings that performance was going well. I was then told the contract was being extended and was asked to attend two additional meetings on that basis. After those meetings took place, I was informed that the contract would not in fact be extended, and the contract was then ended. Only after the contract had been ended did I ask to be compensated for the two additional meetings I had attended at the client’s request while under the impression the contract was being extended. After I raised that unpaid time, I received a message stating that payment for those meetings could be made and that my Upwork feedback would also be changed. Therefore, attempting to link payment with feedback changes is coercive and threatening behavior that raises major concerns under Upwork’s Terms of Service. There was also a suggestion to open a new contract to process payment for the additional time. I was fully aware that this would create an opportunity for retaliatory feedback, so I chose to walk away from the unpaid time and client instead.
