I've posted a job for a 60-second video that I needed done in 48 hours. The description clearly states that it is due for a product launch event. The job was over the weekend, and Pedo sent me an offer for $30 an hour, knowing it's a 48-hour turnaround and it's the weekend.
I explained to him that I need a good enough video to meet the client's deadline for the time being and that it can be improved later. I also told him that I don't have experience creating videos and that he should use his judgment.
Over a phone call, he told me that because it was the weekend, he wanted double the pay for a rate he had given me. I was in a tight spot, so I said yes.
We didn't meet the deadline, and I lost my client, costing me $10K, as we signed for 4 videos. Pedro claimed later that the reason he couldn't make the deadline was that there was no recording, even though it was attached to the job. Later, he told me that the text that I had was enough for 2:30 minutes, even though the voiceover was for 1:18 seconds, which he didn't even bother looking at.
Long story short
Pedro worked for two days and created 10% of the work. He clearly went into too much detail despite the request for something quick and lower quality. He put all his effort into creating ONE SCENE!
Later, after paying him $900, I asked him to complete the work that was agreed upon (a 60-second video for two working days), and he told me that he needed three more working days—paid. If that's not fraud and extortion, I don't know what is.
At the end, I lost a client, was charged for 18 hours, lost $900, and was left with a short video I can't even use in my portfolio. And if that's not enough, he blamed me for everything and was completely unreasonable in doing the right thing.

I assigned him a project, and he committed to delivering it the following night.
He missed his own deadline and submitted the project three days late. (I had no issue with the delay itself.)
However, the delivered design contained several issues: images overlapping text, inconsistent colors compared to the Figma design, and more. I provided detailed feedback. After initially making excuses, he finally admitted the mistakes. I then clearly stated: if you deliver a good version by Wednesday, the rating would be 4/5; if not, 3/5.
He fixed some bugs but did not address new feedback I shared on the revised design.
Despite using AI tools for communication, coding, and assistance, he still failed to deliver a polished project.
For example:
He wrote CSS in app.css instead of +page.svelte, causing styles to affect the entire website instead of just the landing page. I had clearly informed him that I would be integrating this into an existing project.
2 sections of the page are not mobile-friendly.
Important to note: I did not request any extra features or changes during the project. The scope remained exactly the same from the beginning. Yet, despite using AI support, he was still unable to deliver quality code.
Frankly, I am very happy developers are replacing these kinds of developers

I run an Australian online trivia website built on WordPress using Elementor Pro, and I want to build a “Find a Trivia Night” directory page that allows users to discover pub trivia nights using an interactive Google Map with a synced list view. I can provide a competitor website as an example.
This is a fixed-price project. I’m looking for a developer with experience in:
• WordPress (custom templates or shortcodes)
• Elementor Pro integration
• Google Maps API
• Spreadsheet-driven data (Google Sheets)
• Map + list interaction patterns
The emphasis is on good UX, maintainable code, and performance — not over-engineering.
1. Platform & Integration Context (Important)
• The site is built on WordPress
• Page layouts are managed with Elementor Pro
• The trivia finder should be implemented as:
○ A custom Elementor widget, shortcode, or lightweight plugin
○ OR another clean, WordPress-appropriate solution that integrates smoothly with Elementor
Heavy JS frameworks (e.g. full React apps) are not desired unless clearly justified.
2. Backend / Data Management
I need a spreadsheet-style backend so I can manage quiz nights without developer help.
Preferred backend:
• Google Sheets
Each record should include:
• Venue name – suburb
• Address
• Quiz night & start time
• Meal special
• Website
• Phone number
Requirements:
• Site pulls data directly from the spreadsheet
• Updating the spreadsheet updates the site (no redeploy required)
• Spreadsheet access must be read-only and secure
(Google Sheets API or published read feed acceptable)

3. Map Behaviour (Google Maps)
• Google Maps API
• Multiple pins displayed simultaneously
• Pins generated dynamically from spreadsheet data
• Sensible default zoom (city-level)
• Fully responsive (mobile + desktop)
Auto-Location (Important)
• On page load, the map should automatically centre on the nearest Australian capital city
• Use browser geolocation where permitted
• If permission is denied, fall back to a sensible default (e.g. Melbourne)
4. Filters (Above the Map)
Required filters:
• Quiz night (All / day of week)
• Location (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth)
Capital City Logic (Clarified)
• Selecting a capital city should:
○ Centre the map on that city
○ Show all pins returned by the active filters
• Pins should not be hidden outside the city unless filtered by quiz night
5. Map – List Synchronisation (Very Important UX)
The goal is to show all results visually on the map while keeping the list view fast and readable.
A. Map Display (Global)
• Map displays all pins returned by active filters
• Example: If “Melbourne” is selected and there are 40 results, all 40 pins appear simultaneously
B. List Display (Paginated)
• List shows the same filtered results as seen on the map
• Pagination required: 5 venues per page (any order)
• Changing any filter resets pagination to page 1
C. Interaction – List → Map
When a user clicks a venue card:
• Map smoothly centres on the corresponding pin
• Pin info window opens automatically
D. Interaction – Map → List
When a user clicks a pin:
• Map centres on the pin
• Info window opens
• Corresponding list item is highlighted or brought into view

• Clean, readable venue cards
• Optimised for mobile scrolling

I have completed the editing job which he asked me to do before he files a contract as I trusted him. And, I completed it on time. however, he filed the contract after I finished the job with another task of 500 words of essay. he did not mention the deadline. On the same day of filing the contract, he wrote to me saying that the editing job is not adequate and I need to submit a half-page review. I did so immediately and also asked him to give a constructive comment or feedback on my work, so I can improve it. Then, he did not even bother to respond to me and immediately filed a request to end the contract on the same day.
I told him that he can end the contract for 500 words essay, however, the editing job was done on time according to his requirement. so he should pay the payment for that task which was $12. I am a professional researcher and academician. I've just started to use this platform to explore different opportunities, however, people don't act professionally and tried to scam others. I am not in need of $12, but this is not about money. This is about professionalism, dignity, and being fair to others' work. I have spent energy and time completing this task, so I should be getting what I deserve.
I hope the Upwork community can check all communication that I had with the client since the beginning and the time for submission of all tasks. Then, release the $12 for the editing task as my payment and return the $8 for the client.
