1. True end-to-end ownership
You must be able to take responsibility for the entire product lifecycle. This includes proactively building things I should not have to ask for, such as:

* Error states and edge cases
* Contact/support pages
* Sensible onboarding, empty states, and UX copy
* Guardrails, validations, and obvious fintech safety measures
I will not be around to remind you of basic product requirements. I need someone who can take the product and run with it.
2. Proven fintech launch experience (live products only)
You must have launched fintech products from scratch, not just iterated on existing apps.
Your application MUST include a link to a live, currently-running fintech product that you personally helped build and launch.
The product must involve at least one of the following:
* Wallets
* Money movement
* Rewards or cashback
* Balances or ledgers
* Subscriptions tied to financial logic
No screenshots. No Figma links. No “can’t share due to NDA.” A live URL is required.

* Familiarity with consumer-grade fintech UX (not just admin dashboards)

Role Overview
We are seeking a Lead Engineer (Fractional CTO) who is highly solution-oriented, deeply hands-on, and capable of owning both day-to-day development and overall technical direction.
This is a hybrid builder–leader role. You will serve as the principal engineer—writing production code from day one—while also owning the architecture, infrastructure, and engineering standards across the platform. You will lead and mentor a small engineering team, establish best practices, and ultimately help onboard and transition responsibilities to a future full-time CTO.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in early-stage environments, prefers solving real problems over executing narrow tasks, and is comfortable operating with high autonomy and accountability.
Core Responsibilities
1. Hands-On Engineering & Solution Ownership
Act as the first and lead engineer, contributing directly to core product development.
Design and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions across the full stack.
Translate product and business needs into end-to-end technical solutions, not just isolated tasks.
Make pragmatic technical tradeoffs with speed, quality, and future scale in mind.
2. Technical Leadership & Architecture
Own the overall system architecture, including backend services, frontend applications, APIs, databases, and integrations.
Define and maintain engineering standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and deployment.
Own the development infrastructure, including CI/CD pipelines, environments, cloud services, and monitoring.
Serve as the final technical decision-maker in collaboration with the founder.
3. Team Building & Code Governance
Help hire and onboard two additional full-stack engineers.
Establish effective collaboration workflows (branching strategy, pull requests, reviews).
Review and approve code before merging into the master/main branch, ensuring quality, consistency, and scalability.
Mentor engineers through code reviews, architectural guidance, and best practices.
4. Engineering Operations & Execution
Break down high-level product goals into clear technical execution plans.
Balance short-term delivery with long-term technical health.
Identify risks early and proactively propose solutions.
Partner closely with product, design, and leadership to ensure alignment.
5. CTO Transition & Knowledge Transfer
Prepare the engineering organization for a future full-time CTO.
Document architecture, systems, decisions, and technical roadmaps.
Support onboarding of the new CTO, including knowledge transfer and system walkthroughs.
Ensure a smooth, low-risk transition of technical ownership.
