PX4/Gazebo Flight Simulation Engineer for Custom Tailsitter VTOL
We are looking for an experienced UAV simulation and flight-dynamics engineer to develop a practical engineering simulator for a custom electric tailsitter VTOL aircraft.
The simulator will be used actively throughout aircraft development to validate configurations, tune PX4, investigate flight-test issues, evaluate design changes and reduce risk before physical testing.
This is an engineering simulation project, not a game or marketing visualization project.
Scope
The selected contractor will:
Build a custom aircraft model in modern Gazebo
Integrate the model with PX4 SITL and QGroundControl
Prepare the provided CAD model for simulation
Help calculate mass, center of gravity and moments of inertia
Configure motors, propellers, elevons, sensors and actuator mapping
Develop an initial aerodynamic model for hover, transition and fixed-wing flight
Create configurable wind, payload, CG and propulsion conditions
Build basic Python tools for launching, resetting and automating test scenarios
Enable PX4 logging and repeatable comparison of simulation results
Structure the system so Unreal Engine visualization and hardware-in-the-loop testing can be added later
We will provide aircraft CAD, component specifications, propulsion information, avionics configuration, physical measurements and available flight logs.
Initial Deliverables
Working PX4 SITL, Gazebo and QGroundControl workflow
Custom tailsitter aircraft model
Documented mass, CG and inertia calculations
Correct motor, elevon and sensor configuration
Vertical takeoff, controlled hover and landing
Transition to stable forward flight and return to hover
Adjustable aircraft and environmental parameters
Direct actuator-testing workflow
Repeatable engineering test scenarios
PX4 ULog capture and analysis workflow
Source code, setup documentation and technical handover
The simulator must remain usable without Unreal Engine. Gazebo should be the authoritative physics environment, while the architecture should allow a synchronized Unreal visualization and camera-simulation layer to be added in a later phase.
Required Experience
PX4 SITL
Gazebo
QGroundControl and MAVLink
UAV flight dynamics
Fixed-wing or VTOL aircraft simulation
C++ and Python
Aircraft mass properties and inertia calculations
Experience with tailsitters, differential thrust, PX4 control allocation, hardware-in-the-loop simulation or Unreal Engine is strongly preferred.
When Applying
Please include:
Examples of custom UAV simulations you have developed.
Your experience with PX4 and Gazebo.
Your approach to modeling a two-motor tailsitter with elevons and differential thrust.
How you would calculate and validate CG and moments of inertia.
How you would calibrate the simulation using physical tests and flight logs.
Your estimated timeline and proposed milestone structure.
Links to relevant repositories, videos or technical work.
I have a STEP file of an industrial robot. I want you to:
1. Export the CAD assembly.
2. Import into CoppeliaSim, or some other robot simulation software that I can also obtain access to.
3. Define the six revolute joints.

I am presently looking for one or more contractors to help with forensic 3D visualization work on a project by project basis. The work supports technical analysis and demonstrative exhibits used in litigation, insurance, and government matters, so accuracy, repeatability, and a defensible methodology matter more than cinematic polish.
You will be working from: laser scan point clouds, drone photogrammetry, surveillance video, dashcam and body cam footage, scene photographs, vehicle scans, and physical measurements.
If you have the 3D skills but are new to some of the forensic specific methods, say so in your proposal. I am happy to walk you through the forensic side.
What you’ll be doing
• Building accurate 3D scene and vehicle models from laser scan point clouds, photogrammetry, and survey data
• Registering, cleaning, decimating, and meshing point clouds, and converting point cloud data into usable geometry for animation and analysis
• Generating photogrammetric models from photographs and drone imagery when scan data isn’t available
• Lens distortion removal and camera calibration for still photographs and video footage from a wide range of cameras (surveillance, dashcam, body cam, cell phone, action cameras)
• Reverse projection photogrammetry / camera matching, meaning solving camera position, orientation, and focal length to place evidence imagery into a measured 3D environment
• Speed and position determination from video by camera matching vehicle or pedestrian positions across sequential frames and extracting time distance data
• Producing forensic animations and still exhibits driven by reconstruction data (EDR/ACM crash data, timing analysis, sight line and visibility studies, occupant kinematics, day/night and lighting conditions)
• Sight line, obstruction, and visibility analysis from driver eye position
• Documenting your workflow clearly enough that the methodology can be explained and defended under cross examination
Required skills and experience
• Strong, demonstrated proficiency in Autodesk 3ds Max (primary pipeline)
• AutoCAD and general Autodesk ecosystem familiarity
• Working knowledge of Autodesk ReCap or equivalent point cloud processing
• Hands on experience with 3D point clouds and meshes: registration, cleanup, decimation, retopology, and mesh generation
• Understanding of real world scale, coordinate systems, and measurement accuracy. Everything must be dimensionally correct and traceable back to source data
• Comfortable working from imperfect, incomplete, real world evidence rather than clean CAD input
• Clear written communication in English and reliable responsiveness
• Ability to work under confidentiality. An NDA is required before any case material is shared
Software (experience with any subset is valuable, tell me which)
Core:
• Autodesk 3ds Max
• AutoCAD
• Autodesk ReCap
• Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere)
Camera matching / tracking / photogrammetry:
• PFTrack
• SynthEyes
• Agisoft Metashape, RealityCapture, or equivalent photogrammetry package
• CloudCompare, FARO Scene, Leica Cyclone, or similar point cloud tools
Modeling, animation, and simulation:
• Autodesk Maya
• Autodesk MotionBuilder
• ZBrush
• Substance Painter
• SideFX Houdini
• Blender (acceptable as a supplement, not a replacement for the Autodesk pipeline)
Video forensics:
• Axon Investigate, iNPUT-ACE, or comparable forensic video analysis software
Bonuses
• You already hold your own licenses for some or all of the above. This is a meaningful plus and will factor into rate negotiation. If you don’t, I can provide or purchase licenses for the tools a project requires. It is not a disqualifier, just tell me up front what you have and what you’d need.
• Experience with, or willingness to learn, vehicle crash simulation software such as PC-Crash, HVE, or Virtual CRASH. This is a bonus and not a requirement. I am glad to bring someone up to speed on these platforms if the rest of your skill set is strong.
• Your own capable workstation (GPU, RAM, and storage adequate for large scan datasets)
Terms
• Contract, project based, with the potential for steady ongoing work for the right people
• I expect to hire more than one contractor from this posting
• Some work is deadline driven around litigation schedules. Realistic availability estimates matter more than optimistic ones
• All case material is confidential. NDA required.
To apply
Please don’t send a generic proposal. Address the following directly:
1. Which of the listed software packages do you use regularly, and which do you hold your own license for?
2. Describe a project where you camera matched footage or a photograph into a 3D environment. What software did you use, and how did you handle lens distortion?
3. Have you worked with laser scan point clouds? What was the source (FARO, Leica, Trimble, drone photogrammetry) and what did you do with the data?
4. Share portfolio work most relevant to this posting. Technical or measurement driven work is far more useful to me than a demo reel. Redact or omit anything confidential.
5. What is your typical availability per week, and your time zone?
Applications that ignore these questions will not be reviewed.

I need to hire a CAD designer with fabrication and materials experience. I am an acoustics specialist that designs large exhaust mufflers/silencers (e.g. 8m long by 4m diameter). Once the basic 3D design is done in my simulation software, I need a designer to complete the fabrication drawings. The ideal candidate should have experience in both design and fabrication processes because the CAD file you will be given wont have any thicknesses, attachment points, etc. You will need to work with me to specify these points so we have a set of drawings that can 1) actually be fabricated (i.e. there are no parts of the design that are physically impossible to make 2) the silencer wont fail (e.g. when moved it wont break under its own weight or wont fail due to the exhaust gas pressure inside, etc..).
Attached is a simple example showing what I would give you. I would of course be available for questions/clarification.
What I would want from you is a full drawings package I can just hand to my fabrication team.
Ideally I want to use AutoCAD, but open to your preference.
Client's questions:
What is your design software preference?
What do you think are the design challenges of exhaust silencers?
I have a cyber-physical product in development and need a solid SysML model built in Cameo to capture the complete system architecture. My immediate priority is to map out the blocks, interfaces, and behaviors that govern how all electronic, mechanical, and embedded-software elements communicate with each other.
What I need from you
• A well-structured Cameo project file with package hierarchy, block definition, internal block, sequence, and activity diagrams that together describe the end-to-end architecture.
• Clear allocation of communication protocols across hardware and software components so it is obvious where messages originate, how they flow, and where they terminate.
• Sufficient stereotypes, constraints, and parametrics to make the model executable for future trade-off analysis.
• Brief model-based documentation (PDF or HTML) generated from Cameo, outlining assumptions and key design decisions.
Acceptance criteria
1. Cameo project opens without errors or missing profiles.
2. All physical blocks have ports typed with the correct protocol interfaces.
3. Every protocol interaction is represented in at least one sequence diagram linked back to the respective blocks.
4. Documentation automatically syncs with the model and reflects the latest state.
If you work daily with SysML v1.6 (MagicDraw/Cameo Systems Modeler) and have experience modeling communication layers in mixed hardware-software environments, I would love to see examples of your previous models or screenshots demonstrating clarity and consistency.
