JOB TITLE
Pre-Launch Researcher & Community Engagement — Local Commerce Platform (Boston)
ABOUT THE ROLE
I'm building a local commerce platform launching in Boston this fall. We're exploring whether local demand can be made visible before businesses commit inventory, labor, or marketing resources.
The core question behind the company: Can local demand be measured before businesses commit resources? Your work will help us answer it.
Before we launch I need someone to help with three things: running our pre-launch research across online communities, managing our student demand survey, and helping build the pipeline of founding vendors who will be on the platform from day one.
Your work will directly influence product decisions, vendor recruitment, launch strategy, and the evidence we present to future partners and operators. This is not a support role — it is pre-launch critical path work.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
After six weeks, we'll consider this project successful if we've:
• Collected 300+ student survey responses describing what they wish existed near them
• Completed 20–30 vendor conversations — showing real demand data to prospective founding vendors and recording their responses
• Built a founding vendor pipeline of 30 vendors ready for the October launch
• Identified recurring unmet demand themes across the Boston launch corridor
• Produced actionable insights that influence launch decisions — not just data but interpretation
WHAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY DO
Community research — Reddit, Discord, Facebook Groups, and other online communities (approximately 40% of time)
• Post carefully written questions in Boston student and neighbourhood communities — subreddits, Discord servers, Facebook groups, wherever students and local vendors actually spend time
• Respond to every comment genuinely and promptly — the goal is conversation not broadcast
• Engage vendor communities online — food truck operators, restaurant owners, small business groups — with questions about how they currently understand local demand
• Compile weekly summaries of what communities are saying — insights, quotes, patterns, and the questions that produced the most honest responses
Survey management (approximately 25% of time)
• Distribute our pre-launch demand survey — the survey asks students what they wish existed near them that doesn't
• Manually categorise survey responses by demand type, neighbourhood, timing, and recurrence — this categorisation is the core analytical work of the role
• Identify recurring unmet demand themes — what keeps coming up across different respondents and neighbourhoods
• Manage the launch notification list — students who opt in to be contacted when the platform goes live
Founding vendor pipeline (approximately 35% of time)
• Identify and approach prospective founding vendors in the Allston/Fenway/BU corridor — food trucks, cleaning services, tutors, pop-up vendors, independent restaurants
• Present a personalised demand report to each vendor — showing what students near them are already asking for that nobody is currently serving
• Record vendor responses carefully — would they use this platform, what would they offer, how quickly would they respond, what concerns do they have
• Build toward letters of intent from vendors who commit to joining the founding cohort before October
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• You understand online community culture — you know the difference between authentic engagement and promotional posting, and you know which one gets removed
• You are a good listener in written form — when someone responds to a post or a vendor conversation, you know what to ask next
• You are curious about why businesses succeed or fail at the local level — this work will surface real insights if you are paying attention
• You are organised and self-directed — multiple research streams running simultaneously with a clear six-week deadline
• Boston knowledge is a strong advantage — knowing Allston, Fenway, and the BU/Northeastern corridor means you can approach vendors as someone who understands their market
• Experience with community management, market research, or local business outreach is useful — curiosity and genuine interest matter more than credentials
WHAT WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR
• A salesperson who closes deals — this role is research and relationship, not conversion
• Someone who treats online communities as distribution channels — that approach gets removed and damages the research
• Someone who needs detailed daily direction — the goals are clear and we need someone who can navigate toward them independently
TO APPLY
Tell me about a time you engaged a community online around something you genuinely cared about — and what happened.
Not a cover letter. Not your credentials. Just that one thing.
If you know Boston — especially Allston or the BU/Northeastern area — mention it. It matters for this role.

We're conducting qualitative research on discount retail shopping behaviour in South Africa. We need someone based in South Africa to conduct short in-store intercept interviews with shoppers at a discount retailer such as e.g Boxer / U-Save.
What we need:
- Approach shoppers a discount retail store and conduct a short (5 minute) conversational interview using a discussion guide we'll provide
- Target: 5-10 completed interviews
- Record responses (audio recording if shopper consents, or detailed written notes if not)
- Compile responses into a simple write-up (verbatim quotes matter more than summarizing — please capture what people actually say, not just the gist)
This is qualitative, not quantitative research. We want a handful of rich, detailed conversations that go beyond "it's cheaper" and get into why people shop here, what they still buy elsewhere, and what they think of the store versus alternatives.
Ideal candidate:
- Based in South Africa
Comfortable approaching strangers for casual conversational interviews
Fluent in English (and any local language)
Prior experience with market research, intercept surveys, or similar fieldwork is a plus, but not required — comfort with people and good note-taking matter more than formal research background
Able to turn around interviews and write-up within short time frame
Please apply with:
Your location relative to a discount retail store
Any relevant experience with intercept interviews, market research, or customer surveys
Your availability this week/next week

What we need:
- Approach shoppers a Bim store and conduct a short (5 minute) conversational interview using a discussion guide we'll provide
- Target: 5-10 completed interviews
- Record responses (audio recording if shopper consents, or detailed written notes if not)
- Compile responses into a simple write-up (verbatim quotes matter more than summarizing — please capture what people actually say, not just the gist)

Ideal candidate:
- Based in Morocco
Comfortable approaching strangers for casual conversational interviews
Fluent in local language
Prior experience with market research, intercept surveys, or similar fieldwork is a plus, but not required — comfort with people and good note-taking matter more than formal research background
Able to turn around interviews and write-up within short time frame
Please apply with:
Your location relative to a Bim
Any relevant experience with intercept interviews, market research, or customer surveys
Your availability this week/next week

Description
We are a US-based family travel research company gathering practical information about youth football camps in Spain.
We are looking for a reliable Spanish-speaking researcher to contact local football clubs by telephone, WhatsApp, and email. You will speak with club administrators and camp directors, conduct short structured interviews in Spanish, request supporting documents, and deliver clear written notes in English.
This is a research role, not sales, lead generation, or appointment setting. The quality and accuracy of the information matter more than the number of calls completed.
Responsibilities
Research information already published on club websites before making contact
Call football clubs during Spanish business hours
Conduct 10–15 minute interviews in natural, professional Spanish
Confirm eligibility, documents, dates, ages, schedules, prices, language support, player grouping, safety procedures, and booking policies
Follow up by WhatsApp or email
Request brochures, registration forms, and written policies
Enter responses accurately into a structured tracker
Write concise English summaries
Clearly distinguish confirmed information from estimates or unanswered questions
Keep organized records of each contact attempt and source

Careful attention to names, dates, prices, and qualifications
Ability to ask polite follow-up questions when an answer is vague
Availability during business hours in Spain

Independent, organized working style

Based in Spain or experienced calling organizations in Spain
A Spanish telephone number
Familiarity with Spanish youth football or community sports
Catalan language ability
Experience in journalism, qualitative research, customer interviews, or telephone research
Initial paid trial
The first assignment will cover five clubs. For each club, you will:
Review the information already provided
Make up to three reasonable contact attempts
Complete the interview when contact is made
Request written supporting material
Deliver organized English notes and copies of source material
Successful work may lead to a larger group of clubs and seasonal follow-up assignments.
To apply
Please include:
Your location and time zone.
Your spoken Spanish and written English levels.
Any experience interviewing businesses, clubs, schools, or sports organizations.
Whether you have a Spanish telephone number.
Whether you speak Catalan.
Your hourly rate and near-term availability.
A short Spanish audio introduction using this prompt:
“Hola, me llamo [NOMBRE]. Estoy colaborando con una empresa estadounidense que prepara una guía para familias interesadas en campus de fútbol en España. Me gustaría confirmar algunos datos sobre su programa de verano.”
Do not send a generic application. Tell us briefly how you ensure that telephone research is recorded accurately.
I would hire for Spanish fluency, persistence without pushiness, and disciplined reporting—not football expertise alone. A Spain-based bilingual researcher with conversational Catalan would be the ideal profile.
