We are seeking an experienced plush toy product development specialist to create a complete, manufacturing-ready technical specification package for a custom plush toy in three sizes.

We already have an existing visual reference and require someone who can accurately translate this into a premium-quality physical plush toy, with comprehensive technical specifications suitable for direct submission to manufacturers in China.

This is not simply a character illustration or concept design project.

We require an end-to-end manufacturing documentation package covering every aspect of the product, including its physical appearance, dimensions, construction, materials, components, safety requirements, applicable Australian standards, quality control and testing requirements.

Our objective is to provide a Chinese manufacturer with everything necessary to accurately manufacture the product without having to make independent design or material decisions.

Product Sizes

We require three variations:

10 cm: Miniature plush keyring

35 cm: Standard plush toy

60 cm: Large premium plush toy

All three must maintain the same character appearance and proportions wherever practical, with appropriate design adjustments to accommodate the different sizes and safety requirements.

Using our existing reference, develop:

The successful candidate must recommend and specify the exact materials required, including:

Recommended velvet, velour, minky or equivalent premium plush materials.

Fabric colour specifications and Pantone references where appropriate.

3. Australian Toy Safety & Regulatory Compliance

This is an essential part of the project.

These products will be manufactured in China, imported into Australia and supplied to Australian consumers.

We require a specialist with proven knowledge of Australian toy safety requirements or experience working alongside qualified toy compliance and testing specialists.

The completed documentation must address all applicable Australian safety and regulatory requirements, including, where relevant:

Australian Consumer Law and ACCC product safety requirements.

The Consumer Goods (Toys for Children up to and including 36 Months of Age) Safety Standard 2023.

AS/NZS ISO 8124.1 – Mechanical and physical toy safety.

We are looking for a talented 2D character illustrator and animator to bring our existing mascot, Benno, to life.

Benno is the character of our AI-powered productivity and project management application. Our inspiration is Duolingo, particularly its playful, expressive character design and smooth animations.

We already have several illustrations of Benno in different poses. We are not looking for a completely new character, but for someone who can take our existing illustrations, prepare them for animation, extend the illustrations where necessary, and create a reusable animated character.

The project consists of two phases.

Phase 1: Character Illustration and Preparation

We will provide several existing illustrations of Benno as references.

Your first task will be to prepare the character for animation.

This includes:

Analyzing the existing illustrations and identifying which elements need to be separated, modified, or redrawn.

Creating individual graphical elements for the character, such as eyes, mouth, arms, legs, and other relevant body parts.

Creating additional expressions or graphical elements required for the planned animations.

Ensuring that all illustrations remain consistent with the original character design.

Preparing the illustrations in a layered, editable format suitable for rigging and animation.

Phase 2: Character Rigging and Animation

Using the illustrations prepared in Phase 1, you will rig and animate Benno.

We would preferably like to use Rive, allowing the animations to be integrated into our mobile and web applications.

We are interested in using AI tools where they can accelerate illustration or animation work, but the final results must be professional, consistent, and fully editable.

Seven Required Animations

1. Happy

Benno becomes happy, smiles, and makes a small, friendly movement. This is a relatively subtle positive reaction.

2. Excited / Celebration

Benno becomes extremely happy and celebrates enthusiastically. This could include jumping, spinning, raising his arms, or making another energetic celebratory movement.

Benno becomes slightly sad or disappointed. The expression should be gentle and sympathetic rather than excessively dramatic.

4. Shocked / Surprised

Benno reacts with strong surprise or shock. His eyes widen, his facial expression changes dramatically, and his body may react to emphasize the emotion.

This animation should loop seamlessly and be suitable for remaining visible for extended periods without becoming distracting.

Animation Requirements

For each animation, we would ideally like:

A clearly defined character expression or pose.

A smooth transition from the neutral character state into the expression or action.

A suitable ending or return to the neutral state.

Seamless looping for animations that represent ongoing activities, particularly thinking, listening, and waiting.

The character should be built as a reusable animation system, rather than seven independent video clips.

This should allow us to modify expressions, reuse components, and create additional animations in the future.

Final Deliverables

We expect to receive both the complete illustration assets and the finished animations.

Illustration files:

All original editable illustration source files.
