Frontend Work
Review current upload flow and define a clear frontend↔backend contract for progress updates and thumbnail metadata.
Make progress indicators reflect actual upload progress and provide readable percentage/labels to users.
Render previews and thumbnails responsively so they suit portrait and landscape displays and a variety of viewport sizes.
Improve file selection and drag-and-drop handling: validate types and sizes, validate media duration where applicable, and show clear errors.
Ensure controls are accessible and usable on touch devices.

Backend Work
Extend upload APIs to accept optional thumbnail metadata when provided by the client.
Add server-side thumbnail generation to produce variants for multiple aspect ratios and sizes suitable for mobile and web contexts.
Persist thumbnail URLs and metadata with content records and expose them in responses so the frontend can request the correct variant.
Ensure storage and CDN integration follows existing project patterns and respects access control and caching.

API Contract
Keep it minimal: existing upload endpoints should continue working. Add optional fields to completion endpoints for thumbnail metadata (e.g., preferred aspect, focal point hints).
Add a thumbnail-management endpoint if backend will generate variants asynchronously, with status polling or webhook support.

Thumbnail Strategy
Produce a small set of variants (e.g., landscape, portrait, square, and a compact mobile size) rather than infinite combinations.
Prefer server-side generation to ensure consistent quality and caching; optionally accept client-provided thumbnail when available.

Validation & UX
Reject unsupported file types with a clear message.
Enforce client-friendly size and duration limits and provide guidance when files exceed limits.
If uploads are resumable or chunked, show meaningful progress and recover from transient failures.

Testing & QA
Unit tests for upload progress calculation and thumbnail selection logic.
Integration tests for API contract changes (mock storage) verifying thumbnail metadata storage and retrieval.
