We are looking for a talented Children's Book Illustrator to illustrate our educational storybook, Luna the Little Elephant, for children ages 4–8. The project includes creating 24 full-color illustrations, designing an engaging front and back cover, and preparing Amazon KDP print-ready files. The ideal illustrator has experience with children's book illustration, picture books, expressive animal characters, and storytelling through illustrations. Please include relevant samples of your children's book or educational illustration projects when submitting your proposal.
Hi: We are looking for a really talented freelance illustrator who can develop comic characters from written descriptions. This is a first edition of a new comic series. The rate is hourly but will have reasonable parameters. If you believe this could be a creative and fun opportunity, please respond to this job post. Please also include a website address or link to samples of your work. Ideally, creative illustrations. Looking forward to hearing from you! Joel and Justin
Looking for a children’s book illustrator for an environmental water-themed picture book set near Puget Sound. The story follows a child learning how rain, runoff, storm drains, and local water connect to wildlife and the ocean.
I’m looking for a warm, classic children’s book illustration style with Pacific Northwest/Puget Sound inspiration. I’m open to a slightly abstract, child-friendly style, and the illustrations do not need to be extremely detailed or hyper-realistic. Soft, expressive, nature-focused artwork would be ideal.
Scope may include a front cover, several full-page or full-spread illustrations, and a few smaller spot illustrations. Budget is around $1,000, so I’m open to adjusting the illustration count and complexity to fit the budget.
My son (5 years old) wrote a book that is 29 pages. He wants illustrations in the book - hand drawn (or at least looks like it) that has the vibes kind of like Giving Tree/ Bob Books for the pages. I am going to have it printed and bound like a book for him. I do not want a ton of time spent on this because it is just for fun.
I have a clear design idea that I want to use for pod teeshirts. Am looking for an illustrator that can help me produce it. It is a "naughty" concept so that needs to be something you're ok with.
The style should be slightly cartoonish. Would like to see some work examples if you have them

I have written a picture book to explain my daughter's origins to them. It will be used personally in our family and possibly shared online for free with other families who have similar backgrounds.
Style: My preferred style is whimsical, warm, humorous, hand-drawn with visible coloured pencil crayon OR pen&ink+ watercolour texture. Please note that I am *not* interested in anime/Disney/manga style, use of AI, or clean vector illustrations.
Deadline: early November to allow time for printing before Christmas.
Scope: Since this is a personal project that will not make back any of the money invested in illustrations, I'm open to ideas to reduce the scope of the project to keep costs low. My ideas are to use very minimal backgrounds and use family photos for a few of the pages instead of drawn illustrations.
Client's questions:
Briefly describe your previous experience illustrating picture books.
What medium(s) would you use for this project? Are you able to provide a few example illustrations in this medium?
Looking to have a book cover made for an aquatic-themed horror book. Nothing too crazy. It takes place on the Long Island Sound, and for the most part takes place over the course of one night.

About the project
I run Ollie, a small UK software product for local businesses. Ollie is also our mascot — a single recurring character who appears across our social media, website and print material.
The character already exists and is locked. I'm not looking for a new design or a rebrand. I need him redrawn properly as vector artwork, and extended with more poses and expressions.
What I already have
Seven finished illustrations of the character in a consistent style: standing, holding a phone, waving, celebrating, pointing, thinking, and sitting with a laptop.
These will be supplied as the style reference and are the definition of "correct". They're raster only, roughly 1000px, which is the core problem — I can't scale them, can't crop close to the face, and can't recolour them.
Disclosure: the reference images were originally generated with an AI image tool. I'm hiring a human illustrator to redraw them properly as clean vector artwork and to extend the set. If that's something you'd rather not work from, no hard feelings — please skip this one.
What I need
1. Redraw the existing 7 poses as clean vector, matching the reference style closely.
2. Draw ~15 new poses, listed below.
Full body
Arms folded, unimpressed — deadpan
Head in hands, exasperated (comic, not bleak)
Leaning casually against an edge
Mid-stride, walking
Shrugging
Checking a watch
Slumped at a desk, tired
Head and shoulders — drawn as close-ups, not crops
These need to be drawn at close-up scale with the detail that implies. Cropping in from a full-body drawing won't work.
Deadpan, straight face
Wince / grimace
Eye-roll
Knowing half-smile
Eyebrows raised, surprised
Mid-sentence, explaining something
Face only, tight
Neutral
Wry half-smile
Style lock — please don't change these
Late twenties, slightly cheeky, friendly
Five-panel cap
Round glasses
Casual jacket worn open over a plain t-shirt
Dark trousers
Trainers
Hand-drawn bold ink look — loose, confident line, visible brush character
Single flat ink colour. No shading, no gradients, no colour fills, no outlines in a second colour.
The line quality is the whole point. It should look drawn by hand, not vectorised into something stiff and geometric.
Deliverables
For each pose:
SVG — single flat fill colour, layered sensibly, no clipping masks, no embedded raster images. I need to change the ink colour by editing one fill value.
Transparent PNG — 4000px on the longest edge.
Plus:
All poses drawn to a shared baseline and consistent scale, so they're interchangeable in a template
Sensible file names (e.g. ollie-arms-folded.svg)
No background baked into any file
Happy to run a small paid test first: one redrawn pose plus one new close-up, then continue if the style matches.
To apply
Please send:
Examples of hand-drawn or ink-style character work — this style specifically, not general vector illustration
Confirmation you can deliver clean, editable SVG with a single flat fill
A one-line note on your read of the reference style
I won't be reading generic proposals, so please mention the cap and glasses so I know you've looked at the character.
Greetings. I am looking for an illustrator to help create pages for a kids' book. There are 16 pages total. I do not want AI images or to use AI in the project, but human-created illustrations, please.

I'm building a cute character brand and need clean, professional model sheets for my characters that I can use across all my products. Starting with one character - more to follow for the right artist.
I'll provide detailed reference so you know exactly the look I'm going for. From there, I need 100% original, hand-drawn work - no AI-generated art, no tracing, no photobashing, no reused assets. Every character must be drawn by you from scratch.
Per character, I need:
Turnaround (front, side, back, 3/4)
4–6 expressions
Clean final linework + color, high-res and print-ready (300 DPI)
Vector + editable layered source files (AI/SVG plus layered PSD or Procreate) - layers neatly organized and labeled, with line/color/shading separated so colors can be easily changed later
Transparent-background PNG exports
A color palette with hex codes for each character
A work-in-progress recording of your drawing process (screen recording or timelapse)
Details:
Full rights / work-for-hire - copyright transfers to me on final payment (you can show it in your portfolio with brand credit).
Milestone-based: deposit → approved turnaround → final files. Final delivery includes the source files, the WIP recording, and a signed IP transfer agreement that I'll provide.
All work, files, communication, and payment stay on Upwork.
Clear, consistent communication is extremely important to me - please be responsive and check in regularly throughout.
Thank you & I look forward to this project!
Client's questions:
1: Share 1–2 examples of character turnarounds or model sheets you've done (I'm looking for consistency across angles).
2: What's your estimated turnaround per character, and how many revision rounds are included?
Are you comfortable signing a full-rights / work-for-hire agreement that transfers copyright to me on final payment? (Yes/No)
Can you provide a work-in-progress recording or timelapse of your process for each character? (Yes/No)
Confirm your work is 100% original and hand-drawn - no AI, tracing, or photobashing. (Yes/No)
What's your price per character for everything listed, and your rate for a bundle of several?

We are in need of an illustrator to bring this years concept to life- Island in the sky.
You will need to be able to match the theme (neo-ukiyoe) and replicate the concepts with additional nuance and detail.
We also have our faction Paragons, who are original characters designed to embody each genre. We intent to create comics for these paragons, as well as create variant stances and wardrobes for our online marketing assets leading up to the show.
I am excited to create with you!

I’m looking for an experienced graphite artist to create drawing content for the portrait chapter of a professionally published how-to-draw book for teens and adults.
The chapter will teach realistic portrait drawing through clear, progressive illustrations. The overall lesson structure and required steps will be provided to you through thumbnail sketches and brief descriptions of each step. Your role will be to draw each stage accurately, make sure the progression is easy for a beginner to follow, and deliver clean, print-ready files.
There are 14 other tutorials in the book being completed by another artist, so matching the existing drawing style, level of detail, line quality, and presentation will be important. Examples will be provided before work begins.
Scope of Work
You will create six progressive graphite drawing tutorials:
• Head construction
• Eye
• Nose
• Mouth
• Ear
• Complete portrait
Each tutorial is based on one drawing developed from its earliest construction lines through the finished result. Most tutorials will include approximately 8–16 checkpoints, while the final portrait will include approximately 12–20 checkpoints.
The overall lesson structure and required progression will be provided through thumbnail sketches and brief descriptions of each checkpoint. You will not be responsible for designing the curriculum, choosing the steps, writing long instructions, or developing original tutorial concepts.
Your role is primarily technical execution:
• Follow the supplied step sequence
• Produce the graphite drawing in the established style
• Scan the drawing at the requested stages as it develops
• Provide brief notes about what changed at each stage
• Clean and prepare each scan for print
Although the final delivery will include multiple step files, these are not dozens of unrelated drawings. They are six continuous drawing sequences captured at different stages.
Paid Test Project
The project will begin with a paid test tutorial showing how to draw a realistic eye. You will receive thumbnail sketches and short notes showing the required sequence. You will develop one realistic graphite eye drawing through the supplied stages, scanning it at each requested checkpoint and delivering cleaned print-ready files.
For the test, you will:
• Draw each stage in graphite pencil
• Provide brief notes explaining what changes between steps
• Deliver high-quality scans and cleaned print-ready files
Long-form written instructions are not required. Simple notes are enough; the book’s writer will organize and expand the final instructional copy.
If the test is successful, you will be hired to complete the drawings for the full portrait chapter.
Artwork Requirements
• Traditional graphite pencil drawings
• Realistic but accessible for beginner and intermediate artists
• Strong value range and clean contrast
• Clear construction lines in early steps
• Gradual progression without large jumps between stages
• Consistent style across every tutorial
• Bristol or similarly smooth drawing paper for clean line work
• Appropriate range of H and B pencils
• No AI-generated artwork
The final images should feel polished while still showing a process that readers can realistically follow.
File Requirements
Please provide:
• Each tutorial step as a separate high-resolution file
• Raw high-resolution scans
• Cleaned versions isolated against a neutral white background
• No visible paper discoloration, shadows, dust, or unwanted texture
• Minimum 600 DPI scans
• Print-ready TIFF, PNG, or PSD files
• Consistent naming and organization across all files
All artwork must be original. Full commercial rights and ownership of the completed artwork will transfer upon payment.
Timeline
Preferred turnaround for the complete chapter is one week or less, although up to two weeks is acceptable for the right artist.
Reliability and clear communication are important because the chapter must fit into an existing book-production schedule.
Ideal Candidate
You should have:
• Strong realistic portrait-drawing skills
• Experience with graphite rendering
• A good understanding of facial construction and anatomy
• Experience breaking drawings into teachable stages
• The ability to match an established visual style
• Experience preparing traditional artwork for print
• Close attention to proportions, contrast, and scan quality
To Apply Please include:
1 Examples of realistic graphite portraits, eyes, or facial features
2 Examples of step-by-step or instructional artwork, if available
3 Your price for the paid eye tutorial test. The full chapter will be quoted separately after the test and after you have reviewed the complete step plan, style references, and delivery requirements.
4 A brief description of your scanning and image-cleanup process
Please only apply if you are comfortable producing traditional graphite artwork and delivering professionally cleaned, print-ready files.

I sell pottery templates (2D patterns that assemble into clay vessels) and need an exploded-view assembly diagram for one.
Style: like the attached lamp diagram - simple, thin line, isometric, dashed leader lines to lettered circles, parts along a diagonal, finished-product photo alongside.
Pieces are already labeled A, B, C... alphabetically from bottom to top. Base and handle get the last letters since they're attached last, even though they sit at the bottom/side physically.
I'll provide the 2D template PDF, a finished-piece photo, and the letter labels. Please check PDF for reference.
This is a test piece before I order more. What's your rate and turnaround for one diagram?
I have an existing logo that was reimagined using ChatGPT, and I need an experienced graphic designer to professionally recreate it as a clean, scalable vector.
The final logo should closely match the provided design while being refined for professional print and digital use.
Scope of Work
* Manually recreate and vectorize the existing logo
* Clean up any rough edges, inconsistencies, or AI-generated imperfections
* Ensure all shapes, lines, spacing, and proportions are polished
* Match the existing colors as closely as possible
* Prepare the logo for both print and digital applications
Required Deliverables
* Editable vector source file in AI or EPS format
* SVG file
* High-resolution PNG with a transparent background
* PDF file suitable for professional printing
* Full-color version
* Black and white version
* Any fonts used, or text converted to outlines
Please do not use an automated image-tracing tool as the final solution. The logo should be manually recreated so the paths are clean, accurate, and fully editable.
Looking to hire a skilled, gifted hands artist to create an eye popping cover page (front and back), and possibly an introduction page for my poetry book. I really want to CAPTURE the eyes of readers with the cover page, then when they open the poetry book, they will be even more intrigued to buy the book. The art must be eye popping, really eye popping as if the book is yours. Handle with care. Only interested in real inquiries.
Please provide your portfolio and I want to see all of your feedback from previous jobs.
If I'm blown away by your work, this could lead to future projects and other things.
Client's questions:

I want something like this but humanized and drawn by hand- I also want there to be an element of play and whimsy. If you want me to consider you, please provide examples of similar graphics that you have hand drawn. If you don't have one, feel free to sketch a part of this image.

We're an early-stage nonprofit startup developing an original illustrative novel that blends art, storytelling, and social commentary.
At the center of the story is an unlikely hero—a social justice lawyer who also happens to be a spider monkey. Rather than relying on traditional comic panels, the novel is woven together with expressive sketches that feel as though they've been pulled directly from the pages of his sketchbook.
We're looking for 1–2 illustrators to define the visual language of this world.
Whether you're currently studying illustration, fine art, animation, or simply filling sketchbooks every day, we'd love to see your work.
Two Sketch Illustration Roles
Sketchbook Artist
Our protagonist constantly sketches what catches his attention throughout the city.
These illustrations are drawn from his point of view, capturing observations rather than telling the story directly.
Subjects may include:
—Interesting people
—Everyday objects
—Architecture
—Street scenes
—Curious moments
—Unexpected encounters
Because these pages are drawn from the protagonist's perspective, he never appears in these sketches.
We're looking for artwork that feels immediate—as if someone stopped for a few minutes and sketched whatever inspired them.
Story Illustrator
This role focuses on illustrating important scenes throughout the novel.
Unlike the sketchbook pages, these illustrations depict moments where the protagonist actively participates in the story.
These pieces should strengthen the emotional tone of the narrative while remaining expressive and sketch-driven.
Our Visual Direction
We're looking for artists who embrace expression over perfection.
We love artwork that feels:
—Raw
—Expressive
—Loose
—Energetic
—Textured
—Emotional
—Imperfect
—Observational
—Full of movement
We're not looking for polished superhero comics, clean vector art, or highly rendered digital painting.
Instead, we're searching for illustrations that feel spontaneous, human, and alive—work with personality that leaves room for the viewer's imagination.
What we're looking for:
—Strong traditional drawing skills
—Confidence working with pen, pencil, or ink
—Expressive line work
—An eye for storytelling and visual composition
—Ability to interpret written scenes into compelling illustrations
Professional experience isn't required.
Originality, curiosity, and a distinctive artistic voice matter far more than an extensive résumé.
Deliverables
—Black-and-white illustrations
—Pen, pencil, or ink artwork
—High-resolution digital files (scanned or digitally created)
—Small vignette illustrations, notebook sketches, and scene illustrations
—Flexible assignments based on each chapter
Compensation
This is a paid freelance opportunity.
As an early-stage nonprofit startup, we're working with a modest budget, but we're committed to compensating our collaborators fairly within our means.
For the right artist, we hope this grows into an ongoing creative collaboration as the project evolves.
How to Apply
Please include:
—Portfolio, website, or Instagram
—3–5 examples of expressive sketches or ink drawings
—A few sentences about yourself and your artistic approach
Let us know whether you're interested in the Sketchbook Artist, Story Illustrator, or both roles.
If you're the kind of artist who carries a sketchbook everywhere, fills pages because you can't help yourself, and believes that imperfect lines often tell the strongest stories—we'd love to hear from you.

I need an artist to make 5 drawings for a book. This page tells you what to draw. It also tells you the style, the size, and the files I need.
What to draw
Drawing 1: Grass with connected roots
Five grass plants grow in a row. Show the ground as a line across the middle. Above the line are the grass leaves. Below the line are the roots. The roots of all five plants join together under the ground and connect to each other.
Drawing 2: A vase that overflows
A hand holds a small jug and pours liquid into a tall vase. The vase is already full. The liquid spills over the top and runs down the sides. A little liquid sits on the table around the vase.
Drawing 3: A white rat
One white rat. It sits and looks to the front. Keep it simple and clear.
Drawing 4: Sugar poured into water
A hand pours sugar into a glass jar of water. The sugar falls down through the water. Some sugar rests at the bottom of the jar. The water stays clear.
Drawing 5: Two people dancing (feet only)
Two people dance together. Show only their feet and lower legs. One person wears shoes. The other person has bare feet, with no shoes. They dance on a wooden floor.
Style (for all 5 drawings)
● Use the same style for all 5 drawings.
● Black and white only. No colour.
● Draw in a line style, like the pictures in old science or nature books.
● Use thin, clear lines.
● To show shadow or shape, you can use small dots or thin lines close together.
● Do not use large black areas.
● Do not use grey shading. It does not print well.
Size
● The drawings go inside a printed book. The book is black and white.
● Make each drawing about 114 mm wide (11.4 cm, or about 4.5 inches). The height can be different for each drawing.
● The 5 drawings should look like one set, in the same style.
Files I need
● Best: send vector files (AI, EPS, SVG, or PDF).
● If you cannot send vector files: send large, high-quality images. Line art at 1200 dpi, or grey at 600 dpi, at full size.
● For each drawing, please send 3 files: (1) the source file (the file you draw in), (2) a file ready for print (PDF or TIFF), and (3) a normal picture file (PNG).
Important rules
● I will send you 5 example pictures. They show you what to draw. They are only examples.
● Please draw everything new, by yourself. Do not copy the example pictures. Do not copy photos or drawings from the internet.
● When the work is finished, I own the drawings. I will use them in my book, in ebooks, in advertising, and in future books. Please agree to this before we start.
Your promise
● You promise that you made all 5 drawings yourself, as a human artist, with no AI.
● You promise the drawings are new and do not copy anyone else's work.
● If you copy anyone’s work or you use AI, you are responsible for any cost or legal problem that results from it.

Hi! I’m self-publishing my second children’s book, through Amazon KDP, and am looking for a talented illustrator to bring it to life. I am seeking an illustrator to create engaging and colorful illustrations for a children's ABC book. The ideal candidate will have experience in illustrating for children’s literature and a portfolio showcasing their creativity and style. You will work with me to bring the characters and scenes to life, making learning the alphabet a fun and visual experience for young readers. If you have a passion for children's art and can deliver high-quality illustrations on time, I would love to see your work! This is a complete illustration package: full wrap around cover, front matter, and 26 individual letter pages (A–Z). The target publish date: November 1, 2026 — all final files must be delivered by early October 2026 to allow for proofing and print testing. Thank you! Kathy
