3D Interior Designers (3 Positions) - QA Testing Lab Spaces
Project Overview: We are Clutterbot, a robotics startup developing safe and efficient home helper robots designed to tidy rooms by picking up toys, clutter, and organizing items into containers. Our initial target customers are located primarily in San Francisco and other leading U.S. cities known for high smart-home adoption. To thoroughly test our robot's performance, we are building a realistic testing environment within our new office space in India, dedicating 3000 sq ft specifically to QA testing spaces. The goal is to accurately replicate the style, feel, and layout of homes found in these technologically advanced U.S. markets, enabling comprehensive robot functionality tests in real-world scenarios. This project must be completed within a two (2) week timeframe, requiring designers to work efficiently and manage their time effectively. We are seeking three (3) skilled 3D interior designers to create distinct design concepts for separate QA testing spaces. Each designer will be responsible for: A 600 sq ft open-plan living area (where the kitchen, dining, and living spaces flow together). A 200 sq ft child's bedroom. Designers will be assigned one of the following open-plan space configurations: Designer 1: Open-plan living area featuring a split level (with a 12" elevation change addressed by two steps leading down to a lounge area with a display fireplace). Designer 2: Single-level open-plan living area (Option A: Traditional Comfort) - Design a warm and inviting space with a traditional layout, incorporating comfortable, upholstered furniture and a defined dining area. Designer 3: Single-level open-plan living area (Option B: Modern Minimalism) - Design a modern and minimalist space with clean lines, open space, and a focus on functionality. All designs should blend elements of San Francisco design (light woods, matte finishes, sophisticated yet comfortable furnishings) with modern US smart home functionality (seamlessly integrated technology for convenience and automation). We plan to include bay windows in the design to maximize natural light and enhance the connection to the outdoors. Designers working on the open-plan living area will need to specify three swappable flooring systems (hardwood, carpet, and tile), using commercially available modular options (e.g., carpet tiles, interlocking planks) where feasible, to allow for easy changes between flooring types. A key design consideration will be ensuring smooth and level transitions between these different flooring types (≤3mm height variance) on a concrete base. The split-level design (Designer 1) must thoughtfully integrate the display fireplace. Deliverables (Per Designer): Scaled 2D layout plan of the assigned 800 sq ft space (600 sq ft open-plan living area + 200 sq ft child's bedroom), including: For Designer 1: Two steps and fireplace placement Transition details between flooring types (≤3mm height variance) within the open-plan living area (and at the split level for Designer 1) Placement of permanent fixtures (including the display fireplace for Designer 1) Photorealistic 3D renderings showcasing all three flooring options within the assigned open-plan living area. For Designer 1 only: Detailed elevation drawings and/or close-up cross-sections illustrating the flooring transitions (≤3mm height variance) and the split-level step details (height, depth, shape) for robot navigation testing. These should accurately represent the geometry and surface heights that the robot will encounter. Design Considerations (All Designers): Bay windows (tri-fold style) to maximize natural light and reflect San Francisco architecture Mixed flooring (hardwood, rugs, carpets) in the open-plan living area Shaker-style cabinetry Design Considerations (Designer 1): Non-functional display fireplace with stone surround and mantel Split-level design with two steps Requirements (All Designers): Proven experience in all aspects of residential interior design, including space planning, furniture selection, and aesthetic development. Excellent skills in space planning and layout design. Ability to interpret and translate aesthetic preferences (San Francisco design and modern US smart home style). Familiarity with architectural styles common in San Francisco and top U.S. smart-home markets. Ability to produce high-quality visuals and detailed textures. Proficiency in SketchUp, V-Ray, Enscape, or similar software. Understanding of flooring materials and transition detailing. Ability to specify commercially available modular flooring systems to allow for easy changes between flooring types. Strong communication skills. Comfortable working remotely and able to meet a tight deadline of two (2) weeks for project completion. Fixed-Price Milestones (Per Designer): Milestone 1: 2D Plan Approval (1 week) - $250 Scaled layout of the assigned 800 sq ft space (600 sq ft open-plan living area + 200 sq ft child's bedroom), including design-specific elements (steps, fireplace). Transition details between flooring types (≤3mm height variance) within the open-plan living area (and at the split level for Designer 1). Placement of permanent fixtures (including display fireplace for Designer 1). Milestone 2: 3D Validation & Cross-Section (1 week, with possible flexibility) - $250 Photorealistic renders showcasing all three flooring options within the assigned open-plan living area. * Note: Milestone 1 must be completed within one (1) week. Milestone 2 is targeted for completion within one (1) week, but some flexibility may be possible depending on the complexity of revisions. To Apply: Please submit your portfolio and a brief proposal outlining your approach to designing an open-plan living area and a child's bedroom in the San Francisco and modern US smart home style. In your proposal, please indicate if you have a preference for a particular open-plan configuration (split-level, traditional single-level, or modern minimalist single-level) and confirm your ability to complete Milestone 1 within one (1) week. Important Note: We are hiring three designers for this project. Each designer will be assigned a separate design task, as described above.
