# Proposal Templates Overview

> Create reusable proposal templates that automatically fill your Upwork proposals with profile information, rates, and AI-generated cover letters.

## What Are Proposal Templates?

Proposal templates save your configuration so you can quickly apply to jobs on Upwork. When you use a template, it automatically fills:

* Your profile information
* Hourly rates or fixed prices
* Cover letter content
* Answers to client questions

You submit proposals manually on Upwork. Templates prefill the information to save time.

## Step-by-Step Process

### 1. [Proposal Sender](/bidding/proposal-sender)

Select which Upwork profile will be used for proposals:

* Choose your freelancer profile or agency
* Select a specialized profile (if applicable)
* Configure how proposals are submitted (as freelancer or agency member)

  If you don't see your profiles, use "Manage Upwork Profiles" to sync your accounts from the Chrome extension.

Set your rates and pricing:

**Hourly Rate:**

* Set your hourly rate
* Optionally schedule automatic rate increases (every 3, 6, or 12 months)

**Fixed Price:**

* Use client's budget with optional minimum and percentage adjustments
* Or set a fixed project price regardless of client budget

### 3. [AI Writer](/bidding/ai-writer)

Configure how AI generates your proposals:

**AI Guidance** - Define your proposal style (tone, structure, focus areas). Use "Generate instructions" to auto-create based on your profile.

**Additional Context** - Optional. Add background, portfolio links, GitHub, LinkedIn, or other info to help AI create more personalized proposals.

**Client Questions** - Optional. Set how AI should answer client questions. Create targeted answers for common questions.

**Template Structure** - Optional. Combine static text with AI-generated parts for more control over format. See [Template Structure](/bidding/template-structure) for details.

### 4. Save Your Template

Review your settings and save the template. You can edit it later or create multiple templates for different job types.

## Using Templates

After creating a template:

1. Find a job on Upwork
2. Use the Chrome extension to apply with your template
3. The extension fills your proposal automatically
4. Review and submit on Upwork
